Not-so-serious Stuff
A recent article in the New York Times describes the controversy surrounding the sale of poison-free livers from the Fugu fish. Fugu, and especially its liver, has long been a delicacy in Japan, but is quite dangerous because of toxins in many of its organs. The poison-free fish are farmed in a way that their organs do not contain the potent toxin found in wild-caught fish. What is this toxin? It is none other than tetrodotoxin, or TTX, which we use to block sodium channels in the lab.
